Dave Alsop from Uk Fire Stoppers contacted me after being recommended by a previous client. He was concerned about the search engine performance of the site and after receiving my analysis of his existing site request asked me to build a new site but as he was happy with the overall design done by the previous designer requested that I keep it looking the same.

As the previous designer had been fully paid I was able to use the graphics that had been designed by the previous designer but I did need to make certain alterations.

My analysis of the site threw up several design decisions that did not make the site good for SEO. The Google Page Speed insights test showed a mobile score for the website in the low 70s and for the desktop low 80s. Whilst these scores were ok they were not what you should expect for a basic website. After my alterations the scores can be seen in the picture below.

There were also other issues which needed to be rectified. A major problem was the image file  sizes, they were simply too big. After I had optimized them the average file size was 50% less meaning that they would load a lot quicker.

I wrote new javascript to reduce the size of the code and created a new navigation system to provide a better SEO and user experience. A cookies warning was added to the page and even with that extra code the javascript was only 60% of the original websites script size.

Other SEO shortcomings where rectified such as the images being embedded as images and not being used as area backgrounds.

The favicons for the old site also weren't fully complete - favicons for android phones and older iphones where missing leading to a poorer user experience for users of those phones.

I created the new website on a CMS that would allow the site to easily be moved from one host to another should Dave wish to do so. I do not tie any of my clients down and they are free to move their website to any host should they wish to do so, I strongly believe that with the quality of the service I provide they will not wish to do so.
